SSG To Hit YouTube Every Monday!
Beginning this Monday, August 29th, we will be posting weekly YouTube videos to get your week started with the right safety mindset. Occasional rants? Maybe. Encouraging? For sure. Intentional and thought-provoking? Absolutely. Our desire is for each of you to gain an even deeper understanding of what your safety means to us and what your own safety should mean to...you. We may not know each of you, but we care about you and your well-being. So lets walk this journey together and begin looking for ways to get better every...single...day. We encourage you to share these weekly messages as you see fit with your colleagues, management, and your staff. Our hope and our mission continues to be the same each day; "To Protect & Promote the Value of Life" through safety. We will do this by challenging mindsets while still pursuing truths about culture, beliefs and even personal perceptions. See you Monday! It kicks off with part 1 of a 2-part series on how safety starts with YOU. ENJOY!! 3 Key Points to Remember About OSHA's New Drug Screening Policy
1) Ensure you have an INVESTIGATION/INSPECTION checklist that helps to determine IF drugs or alcohol could have contributed to the incident you are testing for 2) Verify your written procedures reflect both your actions and any requirements OSHA would expect based on these new regs (non-blanket statements on drug screening) 3) Ensure your policies and practices align with any other government regulatory entity (DOT) Please reach out via phone or email with any questions! August 1, 2016, otherwise know as TODAY, marks the day that OSHA will begin issuing fines 78% higher since the (now) previous fine structure dating back to 1990. Since SSG, nor anyone else has argued any informal cases under this new fine structure, we are not sure to what extent these massively inflated percentages will be raised during routine citations. OSHA is rarely obligated to charge the maximum penalty per citation regardless of the category. That being said, they now have 78% more "square footage" to play with inside this new penalty structure, and an 18.4 million budget cut to make-up in 2017. We want to remind our readers of this change that takes effect today, but more than that, we want you to stay tuned as we seek to provide you a "boots on the ground" perspective on how OSHA is working within this new structure. If you have any questions about this or the several other OSHA changes taking place this year, please reach out to us by either of the following: info@summitsafetygroup.com 417-823-7233 We look forward to hearing from you, -Jake Woolfenden |
