There's a simple truth out there that says every bit of wisdom and instruction has already been said at some point in history. This is very true within the world of safety. The question is...what are YOU saying to ensure the message is impacting those you're trying to protect?
Just because you know the regs, doesn't mean you know how the regs apply. Better yet, how they translate to the safest possible operations for various job functions. Stop being "the expert" for a while, and listen to the experts in the shop and field.
One of the most important realizations we as safety leaders must come to realize; our jobs require us to be in uncomfortable situations...often. If you're struggling with this, be encouraged that you're certainly not alone! If you're avoiding these scenarios, I'm challenging you that you're likely missing the most important moments as a leader and not protecting your teammates as well as you could. Do uncomfortable things and embrace the awkward. Just don't forget to do it with grace and humility.
