Specialty Classes

These are services that often require additional training above & beyond your regular safety program.  OSHA 10&30, HAZWOPER & various other site-specific requirements are common examples.

The following is a list of our specialty courses and a summary of what you can expect as a participant.  Many of these courses require a full day or several days onsite so be sure to give us enough lead time to get you scheduled in a timely manner.  Contact us via email if you have any questions about a course.  We look forward to working with you!

OSHA 10 & 30 Hour (Construction)

This training provides the participants with an overview of the safety and health hazards associated with constriction industry processes. Among the topics covered are : excavation and trenches, tools, electrical safety, fall protection, ladders and scaffolds, and cranes and rigging.

OSHA 10 & 30 Hour (Gen. Industry)

This training provides the participants with an overview of the safety and health hazards associated with general industry processes.  Among the topics covered are machine guarding, electrical safety, HAZCOMM, LOTO and fall protection.

First Aid/CPR/AED

Summit Safety utilizes the National Safety Council's First Aid/CPR/AED training program to certify our participants.  The First Aid cert is 2 years and the CPR is the standard 2 years.

Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift) - Operator

We instruct our students in the proper operation, maintenance and inspection of forklifts in accordance with OSHA standards.  We provide a classroom portion, written quiz and driver evaluation.  We also assess and address the specific hazards of each facility we train in.

Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift) - Train the Trainer

When there are a number of employees that need to be consistently certified in forklift operation, it can be overwhelming to solely rely on an outside training company to provide this training.  We will train you on how to present it, provide you with all of the necessary training tools, quizzes and evaluation forms so you can stay compliant.

Confined Space Entry - Permit Required

This class will increase the students knowledge on hazards associated with a confined space environment and proper entry of that space.  Training will include: permit space hazards, entry procedures, ventilation requirements, PPE and the permit system.  You will learn to identify hazards, define key terms, and pinpoint when standards are applicable.

HAZWOPER - Waste Site Worker (40hr)

Throughout this interactive 40-hour program, students will learn how to protect themselves and fellow co-workers that work around hazardous waste and hazardous waste work sites.  Each student will participate in small group activities, classroom discussions and hands-on field exercises.

HAZWOPER - Annual Refresher (8hr)

Each participant will receive a refresher curriculum based on the original HAZWOPER course.  They will have the opportunity to demonstrate core competencies and maintain the key skills they learned in the original training.

HAZWOPER - Emergency Response to Chemical Spills Technician Level

This 24-hr course will prepare each student on how to respond to the accidental release of hazardous materials, how to protect the environment and how to protect the health and safety of all personnel.  Illustrated course materials and hands-on group exercises make-up the curriculum.  (This course does not replace the  40hr HAZWOPER when that is required)

Shipping, Handling and Storage of Hazardous Materials - Air (IATA)

This one day course provides procedures for safe handling, storing and preparing hazardous substances for shipments by Air as required by the International Civil Aviation Organization.  Students will receive the most current requirements for both domestic & international shipments, classifications according to the Dangerous Goods Table and packing & labeling specifications.  A refresher of applicable DOT standards is also presented.

Shipping, Handling and Storage of Hazardous Materials - Ground (DOT)

This one day course provides procedures for safe handling, storing and preparing hazardous substances for shipments by Ground as required by DOT regulations.  Students will receive the most current, hands-on instruction in using reference materials, labeling, and preparing materials for shipment.  You will also learn the key competencies required for safely responding to hazardous substance emergencies.

Hands-On Fire Extinguisher Training

During this hands-on course, we review basic fire prevention measures, the 4 classes of fires and their corresponding extinguisher class, the fuel and ignition sources surrounding you at your facility, and the hands-on use of the PASS fire extinguisher method.   We will keep you OSHA compliant and the training both simple and effective.

Testing/Sampling Services

The EPA & Industrial Health arm of OSHA are in full swing & are routinely checking to see if employers are meeting the requirements of Personal Exposure Limits pertaining to hazardous substances. Let us keep you compliant.

OSHA expects that you as an employer are keeping your employees safe from a number of hazardous substances they may come in contact with.  Each hazardous material has a Personal Exposure Limit (PEL) assigned to it by OSHA.  Basically put, this is an allowable amount of contact each employee may have with a particular substance.  We have the equipment necessary to perform the sampling and a longstanding relationship with the lab to ensure you receive accurate results and maintain both safety and compliance within the industrial hygiene aspect of your site.  Some of the common substances we test for are:

  • Arsenic
  • Asbestos
  • Asphalt fumes
  • Benzene
  • Beryllium
  • 1-Bromopropane
  • 1,3-Butadiene
  • Cadmium
  • Chromium
  • Diacetyl
  • Diesel exhaust
  • Ethylene oxide
  • Formaldehyde

OSHA Hearings & Fine Reduction

We deal with OSHA on a weekly basis on behalf of our clients.  We have a history of dramatically reducing citation violations & associated fines.  We have experience working from the Informal Hearing to full blown court cases.

We routinely assist companies through OSHA Informal Hearings to reduce the severity of their citations and associated fines.  We have built a solid reputation as a company that can drastically reduce your fines by means of expert evaluation of each citation and providing OSHA compliant corrective actions.   Below are some of our recent fine reductions:

  • $24,000 down to $250
  • $14,500 down to $4,200
  • $19,320 down to $9,660
  • $2,800 down to $0

On top of fine reduction, we argue to modify the category of citations.  The most common we successfully change is from "Serious" to "Other Than Serious."  This will help keep a future incident from turning into a "Repeat" or "Willful" violation.  If you have a citation, it is far cheaper to hire our company than to accept the penalty, so reach out to us so we can assist you with your citation; big or small.

Safety Manual Development

Our safety manuals have been reviewed by OSHA for over 15 years and continue to pass their tests.  Our consultants will work with you to establish a safety manual that is pertinent to your scope of work and ensure that each area of operation is covered in these written programs.   As an active client, we will routinely audit the written programs to ensure they remain up-to-date and OSHA compliant.  If you need a safety manual for your company, give us a call.
